This short and vigorous indica with a surfer's high has been a favourite among Mandala growers for over 10 years. We have received many requests for a sequel and are pleased to welcome Speed Queen back into our catalogue due to popular demand.

Speed Queen impresses right from the start of seedling growth. The plants quickly develop fleshy, broad leaves and a tree-like main stem with extremely thick, reinforced internodes. They continue to grow stocky and wide, making them easy to fit into growing spaces where shorter plants are required, and are perfect for incognito cultivation on balconies and outdoors. Root growth underground is equally impressive, ensuring fast and efficient nutrient uptake. Speed Queen grows extremely well in organic soil and requires minimal intervention and care. In rich soil and sufficient container size, the plants can be left to practically fend for themselves. The 3.5-5 litre air pots are ideal for indoor growing; close planting is possible to grow plants with a central main bud. Due to the low height growth, this is not your typical strain for LST or SCROG methods. However, you can prune the top shoot early if you prefer multi-stemmed plants. For this, a week or more extra growing time, beyond the usual 4 weeks, with a 20/4 light cycle is recommended for growing in soil (unless you want to keep the plants very short).

Named for its fast flowering and early harvest time, Speed Queen quickly produces resinous buds all along the plant. Flowering can start almost automatically once the plants have reached a sufficient size, which is why we call it ‘semi-automatic’. Therefore, a light cycle of 20/4 during the vegetation period is best if you are aiming for the full 4 week growing period. This tip also applies to growing under low light (less than 400W/HPS per m2 or low wattage LED lamps that are not made for professional use).

If you need short plants for the balcony, greenhouse or open field, you should grow them later in the season. The seeds can be germinated by the end of May-1 June week (northern hemisphere). However, if you start earlier in the season, the plants can reach their maximum size. What size this will be depends of course on all external conditions such as nutrients, environment and pests. Due to their rapid flowering, it is difficult to regenerate Speed Queen once buds have formed. Therefore, pay attention to the right timing when taking cuttings or young plants outside from a longer light cycle under artificial light.

This almost indestructible strain is a good choice for guerrilla growing and windy areas. The plants are very storm-resistant due to the seemingly unbreakable stems and compact growth habit. Speed Queen's toughness is also evident in its resistance to heat and cold and it is forgiving of mistakes in plant care and recovers quickly. Outdoors in the north (46°N and higher), the harvest period usually lasts until mid-October and the plants can survive cold snaps down to freezing point. In Mediterranean climates, harvesting should be possible at the end of September or earlier (northern hemisphere). In Australia, it depends on when the seeds are planted, but a life cycle of 12+ weeks from germination is standard.

In breeding projects, Speed Queen can be used to revitalise depleted genetics, shorten plant height and flowering time and increase stress resistance.

Also worth mentioning is the medicinal potential of Speed Queen for chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatism/arthritis, insomnia, anxiety, depression and loss of appetite. In at least two cases known to us, Speed Queen has alleviated the symptoms of fibromyalgia.

The flavour ranges from delicious tangerine and citrus to spicy-skunky with minty undertones. The cerebral effect is thought-provoking and calming. It is very suitable for relieving stress and anxiety, for switching off, for feelings of happiness and for enjoying leisure activities - which is why we like to call it the ‘Surfers High’!
